US Trade Policy in the Obama Era

“Let me say one thing very clearly, we are not in February 2008. The world has changed very dramatically since then. Those changes have had a very big influence on US policy. The election of Barack Obama and the appointment of Hilary Clinton as Secretary of State, who just visited here last week, I think indicate a dramatic change from the discussions the two had when vying for the nomination of their party. There is a big difference when you are campaigning for the selection among your own party and when you have responsibility for governing a great country. That is part of the reason why there is a new sense of urgency in the US in engaging with its trading partners. I hope that Secretary Clinton gave that message to both the Korean government and the Korean people during her visit here last week..."
